Methodology
Last updated: 2026-09-25
IsItCrowded answers a simple planning question: is it crowded? We publish transparent, model-based estimates — not live crowd sensors, not official park attendance feeds, and not copied ratings from other websites.
What the score is
Each date gets a score from 1–4 mapped to original tier names:
- Soft — typically the easiest expected crowd tide
- Moderate — a normal day for that season
- Busy — elevated pressure
- Peak — heaviest expected pressure on our model
Inputs we use
- Day of week — Mon–Thu start softer; Friday higher; Saturday usually highest; Sunday still high.
- US federal holidays (and nearby days) for 2025–2027, including Thanksgiving week and the Christmas–New Year corridor.
- Peak seasons — mid-June to mid-August; late November through early January; spring break / Easter windows and a mid-March–early April CA-style break band.
- Park profiles — e.g. stronger Halloween boosts where Haunt seasons matter; Disney festive-season multipliers; Vegas weekend destination weight; milder zoo weekdays.
- Dampeners — early January after New Year week; mid-September to early October non-holiday weekdays; early December weekdays before the holiday ramp.
What we do not use
- Live wait-time APIs or turnstile counts
- Official Disney / Universal / Six Flags attendance disclosures
- Scraped or reproduced competitor calendars, wording, or rating scales
How to read a day
Tap any day on a calendar for a short explanation (weekend baseline, holiday nearby, summer peak, etc.). The “Best days this month” strip lists the lowest-scoring dates in the visible month.
Limitations
Special events, temporary closures, new attractions, weather, and one-off conventions can move real-world crowds away from seasonal averages. Always confirm park hours and ticket rules with the operator. See our disclaimer.
Implementation lives in client-side JavaScript (/js/crowd-model.js) so calendars work on static hosting without a backend.
